Devotion in Ritual: A New Moon in Gemini Reflection

My mind keeps getting pulled to the word devotion.

We often associate it with grand gestures or spiritual discipline, but when you slow down and truly sit with its meaning, it becomes something much more intimate and honest.

Devotion is defined as steady, steadfast attention.

And when we go deeper:

  • Steadfast means firm in purpose; an unwavering and unshakable in loyalty
  • Steady means consistent, continuous movement, balanced, and rooted in regular habits

These definitions offer us a mirror.

Not to judge ourselves, but to gently assess the quality of presence we bring into our rituals and spiritual practices.

Gemini and the Dance of Devotion

With the new moon in Gemini on Sunday, we are invited into a curious paradox.

Gemini energy is fluid, inquisitive, ever-moving. It thrives in exploration, communication, and possibility—but can sometimes struggle with commitment or consistency.

This is not a flaw. It is simply the nature of air.

And yet, this lunar moment asks:

Can devotion exist within movement?
Can we remain steady, while still being open and curious?

Devotion, in this sense, does not require rigidity. It asks for return.

A returning to the body.
A returning to the breath.
A returning to what matters.

Again and again.

Ritual as a Place of Return

When I enter ritual, my intention is now not perfection.

It is connection.

Connection to my body, my heart, and my nervous system. Because when I am fully embodied—when I am rooted in my truest self—that is where I experience the divine.

Devotion, then, becomes less about what the ritual looks like and more about how consistently I show up to it.

Not perfectly. But steadily.
Not forcefully. But with intention.

You might take a moment to reflect on your own practices:

  • Am I steady?
  • Am I steadfast?
  • Do I bring focused attention into this space?

These questions are meant to bring awareness, not guilt.

Plant Allies for Devotion

We are not meant to do this work alone.

For centuries, mystics, healers, and spiritual practitioners have worked with aromatic plants to deepen their focus, anchor their awareness, and support their devotion.

Two allies I return to again and again are Rose and White Sage.

Rose opens the heart in a way that feels both tender and courageous. It reminds us that devotion is not only something we show outward, but something we offer inward. The love and devotion we cultivate for ourselves is sacred. It is foundational.

White Sage brings clarity and intentional focus. It clears mental noise and creates space for presence. Where the mind may wander, sage gently guides it back.

Together, they create a balance of heart and awareness—feeling and focus.

Supporting Gemini Energy

Gemini rules communication, the throat, and the exchange of ideas. When working with this energy, we can support clarity, confidence, and flow through both plant and mineral allies.

Aventurine is a beautiful stone for this lunation. It supports the heart and throat connection, encouraging honest, clear expression while softening fear or hesitation.

Spearmint is one of my favorite oils for Gemini energy. It is uplifting, refreshing, and helps to clear communication pathways—both internally and externally. It encourages confidence in expression and a sense of ease in conversation.

A Closing Reflection

Devotion is not about how elaborate your ritual is.

It is about how present you are within it.

It is the quiet commitment

To return.
To listen.
To soften.

And when your focus wavers, as it naturally will, there is no need for judgment.

Simply begin again.

With breath.
With intention.
With devotion.
