Are your herbs/oils organic?
We prioritize using certified organic herbs whenever possible. When organic certification is not available, we source wildcrafted or cultivated herbs grown without chemicals.
What does "wildcrafted" mean?
Wildcrafted herbs are harvested by hand from their natural habitat where medicinal plants grow naturally, rather than being cultivated on farms. We are committed to supporting ethical wildcrafting methods that respect plant populations and ecosystems.
Do you use any endangered or threatened herbs?
We take conservation seriously. If we carry any herbs that are considered at-risk (such as Goldenseal, American Ginseng, or Osha Root), they are sourced only from organic or ethically wildcrafted suppliers. We encourage mindful use of these herbs and recommend suitable alternatives whenever appropriate.
Can I use herbal products if I'm on prescription medication?
We don't carry ingestible products at this time, but may in the future. However, its good to know herbs and essential oils can interact with prescription medications, sometimes significantly. Common interactions include:
- Blood thinners (warfarin): Can interact with ginkgo, garlic, ginger, and many other herbs. There are many other essential oils such as clove, wintergreen or cinnamon (bark or leaf) that interact with blood thinners.
- Blood pressure medications: May interact with licorice, ginseng
- Antidepressants: St. John's Wort is known to interact with many medications
- Diabetes medications: Some herbs affect blood sugar levels
Always consult with your healthcare provider before adding herbal supplements to your routine if you take prescription medications. We recommend bringing a list of all herbs and oil blends to your medical appointments.
Are herbal products safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Do not use herbal products and essential oils during pregnancy or while breastfeeding without consulting your healthcare provider.
We are happy to discuss which products may be appropriate for your situation during a consultation.
Can children use your products?
- General guideline: Some essential oils can be too potent for children under 8, our herbal infused oils are less potent and therefore safer.
- Always consult with a healthcare provider before using herbal products or essential oils on children
How should I store my herbal products?
General Storage Guidelines:
- Store in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight
- Keep away from heat sources (not above the stove or in humid bathrooms)
- Use airtight containers, preferably glass
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
Specific Products:
- Dried herbs: Glass jars in a pantry; shelf life 1-2 years for leaves, 2-3 years for roots/bark
- Herbal oils and salves: Cool, dark place; shelf life 1 to 2 years depending on the oil used.
- Herbal teas: Airtight container away from light; use within 1-2 years
How long do your products last? Do they expire?
Yes, herbal products have varying shelf lives:
- Dried herbs: 1-3 years depending on the plant part
- Powdered herbs: 6-12 months
- Salves and balms: 1 to 2 years
Check individual product labels for specific expiration dates. If a product looks, smells, or appears off in any way, discard it.
