Inner Work and Integration
Deep ritual practice eventually brings you face to face with the parts of yourself that are harder to see directly: the shadow, inherited family patterns, the dreaming mind, and the expanded states that can open up through sustained practice. This pillar is about meeting that material with structure and care. No background in psychology or depth work required, every term is explained in plain language as it comes up.
Introduction to Expanded States: What They Are and How They Work
The foundational guide behind this pillar: what expanded states are, why they tend to emerge naturally from consistent ritual practice, and how to meet them with a grounded, body-first approach.

Coming soonFrequently Asked Questions
What is shadow work?
Shadow work is the practice of getting to know the parts of yourself you tend to hide, deny, or judge, often traits you learned early on were unacceptable to show. The goal isn't to eliminate these parts but to understand them, since what stays hidden tends to show up anyway, often in ways that feel confusing or repetitive.
What is ancestral healing?
Ancestral healing is the practice of examining and working with patterns, beliefs, or wounds passed down through your family line, sometimes called intergenerational trauma. This can include ritual, like building an altar for ancestors, or simply reflecting on family patterns you'd like to understand and shift.
What is dreamwork?
Dreamwork is the practice of paying attention to your dreams, usually by recording them and looking for patterns or symbols, as a way of accessing material your waking mind doesn't usually surface. It doesn't require a fixed interpretation system, just consistent attention and curiosity.
What is an expanded state?
An expanded state is a shift in ordinary awareness, brought on by practices like deep meditation, breathwork, or ceremony, that can open up new emotional or perceptual territory. These states can be genuinely valuable, but the days afterward, the integration period, matter just as much as the state itself.
Why does integration matter after an expanded state or deep ritual experience?
Integration is the process of bringing insight or emotional material from a deep experience back into ordinary daily life in a grounded way. Without it, powerful experiences can fade without lasting benefit, or can leave you feeling unsettled, so simple practices like journaling, rest, and a supportive ritual space in the days after matter as much as the experience itself.
Do I need therapy instead of these practices, or can they work together?
These practices are not a replacement for therapy, especially when working with trauma, grief, or significant mental health concerns. Many people find ritual practices like shadow work journaling or ancestral reflection work well alongside therapy, but a licensed professional should be part of the picture for anything clinically significant.
