The eclipse portal may have left more on the surface than you expected. A memory that arrived out of nowhere. A familiar self-criticism. A conversation you thought you had moved beyond. Maybe you have felt clear one minute and emotionally overwhelmed the next, as though something inside you is asking to be witnessed before it can settle.
That does not mean you have failed to make sense of the last two weeks. It may mean you are standing at the closing threshold of the portal. On Thursday, August 27 at 10:18 PM Mountain Time, the Full Moon in Pisces arrives as a partial lunar eclipse, bringing the eclipse season that began with the Leo New Moon to its close. This is not a moment for forcing a final answer. It is a moment for making room to receive one.
The Full Moon in Pisces: Compassion for What Surfaced
A Full Moon brings illumination. It tends to show us what has been building beneath the daily pace of life, often in a way that is hard to ignore. Pisces adds a softer, more permeable quality. This is the part of the zodiac that holds feeling, imagination, memory, grief, intuition, and the places where our boundaries become less certain.
After the Leo New Moon Solar Eclipse asked where we may be performing instead of living from what is true, this Pisces lunar eclipse asks a gentler question: can we have compassion for the parts of ourselves that surfaced when the performance fell away?
That includes the part that wants to be admired, the part that is tired of trying to get it right, the part that still carries an old disappointment, and the part that does not yet know what comes next. Pisces does not ask us to make those parts disappear. It invites us to hold them with enough tenderness that they no longer have to fight for our attention.
The nervous system often settles more readily when it does not have to defend against its own inner experience. Naming a sensation, allowing a few slow breaths, and meeting the body with warmth rather than correction can give the autonomic nervous system a little more room to downshift. This is not about bypassing what is difficult. It is about building capacity to be with what is already here.
The Eclipse Portal Closes Here
An eclipse portal is the roughly two-week stretch between a solar eclipse and the lunar eclipse that follows it. Astrologers often experience it as a compressed period of endings, beginnings, resurfacing material, and rapid reorientation. This August portal opened with the Leo Solar Eclipse, where questions of visibility, authenticity, and self-regard came forward.
You may have noticed old people, memories, patterns, or stories moving back through your life during this window. Not everything that resurfaces requires action. Some things return simply because they are ready to be seen from the lens of the person you have become.
The Pisces lunar eclipse closes this passage, but closure does not always feel like a clean conclusion. Sometimes it is a softer recognition. Sometimes it is realizing you do not have to keep carrying an old explanation for who you are. Sometimes clarity comes only after the emotional weather has moved through.
If you still feel uncertain, you do not need to rush yourself toward certainty. The final days of an eclipse portal can be tender, disorienting, and revealing all at once. Let the dust settle before you move forward with big decisions.
The T-Square: Let the Old Story Be Interrupted
This lunar eclipse forms a T-square, an aspect pattern that creates productive tension and asks something to shift. The Pisces Moon stands opposite the Sun and Mercury in Virgo, while Uranus in Gemini squares both sides of that opposition.
In plain language, Pisces is asking us to feel, soften, imagine, and make room for mystery. Virgo, amplified by Mercury conjunct the Sun, wants to organize the information, name the pattern, improve the plan, and decide what is useful. Uranus introduces a third force: surprise, disruption, and a perspective that does not fit the old mental filing system.
You may notice a pull between wanting to explain everything and realizing that your current explanation no longer holds. You may receive an unexpected insight, encounter a new possibility, or feel an old assumption become suddenly less convincing. The invitation is not to abandon discernment. Virgo has real wisdom to offer.
There is a Buddhist teaching about a visitor who comes to a teacher already full of opinions, answers, and certainty. The teacher continues pouring tea into the visitor's cup until it spills over. When the visitor protests, the teacher points out that a full cup cannot receive anything new.
This eclipse carries that same invitation.
A mind crowded with old conclusions can have a hard time receiving new wisdom. A heart gripping an old story about what should have happened can have a hard time recognizing what is actually arriving. An identity built entirely around who we have been may not leave much room for who we are becoming.
Emptying the cup does not mean erasing your experience or pretending you have no discernment. It means loosening your hold long enough to ask: what if there is something here I have not considered? What if I do not need a final interpretation tonight? What if openness is more useful than certainty right now?
Correspondences for This Full Moon: Labradorite, Sage, and the Body's Water
The correspondences for this Full Moon in Pisces work well together, but don't have to be used all at once.
Labradorite- a stone with a shifting, iridescent flash beneath its gray surface, mirrors Pisces' own quality of shimmer and depth: what looks plain from one angle reveals color and movement from another. Held during quiet moments this week, labradorite offers a physical anchor for a sign whose gifts can leave them feeling a bit untethered.
Sage- the plant ally for this moon, and its correspondence runs through both Mercury and Jupiter, a pairing that mirrors the T-square itself: Mercury's need to name and understand, Jupiter's reach toward expansion. Sage has long been used to support clear thinking and steady digestion. Pisces tends to run wet and cool, so Sage's warming and drying properties are good to balance that. Also, Pisces tends to have a weaker immune system because of its "porous" nature and Sage helps boost the immune system with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
As a side note, as we are heading into Fall using sage as a tea or even a gargle can help stave off colds and flus.
White Copal- is our aromatic ally for Pisces. This powerful plant is used to bring someone into a trance state to more readily feel the "oneness" of existence. It is used to promote creativity and enhance imagination. It is also good for clearing negative energies and for energetic protection.
The felt intensity of the past two weeks (Awakening) now has somewhere to go: a stone to hold, a plant to experience, a scent to breathe, each one a small cognitive bridge between what happened and what it means.
A Pisces Lunar Eclipse Ritual: Mirror and Empty Cup
This ritual returns to the mirror practice from the Leo New Moon and adds an empty cup as a physical reminder of receptivity.
· A mirror
· An empty cup, bowl, or small vessel
· A candle, if flame feels safe and supportive in your space
· A journal and pen
· Optional: a small amount of your favorite anointing oil
Place the empty cup on your altar or beside the mirror. Let it remain empty. It is not an object that needs to be filled. It is a symbol of the space you are making for a new perspective, an inner truth, or an unexpected form of wisdom.
Begin as you did near the Leo New Moon. Look at yourself in the mirror without trying to correct, improve, or interpret what you see. Notice what happens in your body.
Is there a tightening in the throat? A softening behind the ribs? An urge to look away? A warmth in the face? You might simply observe the sensation before writing anything down.
Then ask:
· What do I see now that I could not see at the beginning of this portal?
· What part of me has been asking for compassion?
· What old opinion, identity, or story am I willing to set down for the moment?
· Where might I be more open than I was two weeks ago?
· What am I willing to receive without needing to understand it immediately?
If words come, write them. If nothing comes, that is welcome too. Remaining with the empty cup is part of the practice.
You might place a hand over your heart or rest your palms on your thighs. Notice the support beneath you. Consider using this Ho’oponopono practice to end.
The point is not to leave with every answer. The point is to practice becoming receptive enough to recognize wisdom when it arrives.
The Leo Solar Eclipse opened this portal with a question about authenticity. The Pisces Lunar Eclipse closes it with a practice of compassion. Together, they offer a simple, but demanding invitation: let the parts of you that have been performing rest, and make enough room to receive the self that still remains undiscovered.
